Genesis 2:7 & Psalm 103:13-18

“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” - Genesis 2:7 (KJV)

“Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him” - Psalm 103:13-17a

Reflection

Lent begins by reminding us of our humanity: God formed us from dust and breathed life into us. We are fragile, yet deeply beloved.

While our time on earth is temporary, we are never forgotten or forsaken. We are seen, known, and loved. Repentance is simply redirection—a sacred turning back toward the One who created us and still breathes life into us.

This Week's Practice

Sit in silence for five minutes daily.

  • Let your breath remind you of the One who gave you life.

  • Allow the quiet to hold you in God's compassion.

Reflection Questions

What does the reading from Genesis reveal to you about God and about yourself?

How does knowing you are both "fragile dust" and "deeply beloved" change how you view your daily life?

How do these two scripture passages together deepen your understanding of God's compassion?

Take time this week to simply breathe and remember: you are dust, and you are beloved.
